In 2024, a major change in the leadership happened as Tim Cleland (Delta High School) the President fo the IHSTECA decided to step down as President after 25 years of service.     The accomplishments Tim Cleland has meant to Indiana Tennis are almost unmeasurable.   He has been a true leader at the local, state, and national levels.      Fortunately, Tim will continue being a part of the Association moving into a Past President Liaison Officer position as we transition leadership.

I am blessed to be selected to lead this amazing organization as the new President of the IHSTECA.  I do not wish to replace Tim Cleland, but continue his amazing work.    I have been a part of the IHSTECA for almost 30 years.  I started out as a D4 Rater, transitioned to the Head Girls Rater, and eventually served as the Webmaster and Secretary.     I have worked closely with the IHSTECA as it has grown to 300+ members every year except 2020 when we dealt with the Covid season.

Fortunately, we are been surrounded by a top-notch staff of officers, and we enjoy working together on conventions, rules proposals, district meetings, and other association business.  Literally everything that the association accomplishes is a group effort.  We are all volunteers in this venture.

Throughout the decades of its existence, the goal of the IHSTeCA has been to serve the best interests of the coaches and players in boys’ and girls’ tennis throughout Indiana.  Through serving on the board and attending conventions, I had the opportunity as a younger coach to learn at the feet of such legendary coaches as Ed Yarbrough of Jasper, Jim Clark of Homestead, Sharon Rosenburgh of Carmel, Mike Saine of Peru, Ivan Smith of Center Grove, and Bill Reed of Laporte, all of whom are in the Indiana HS Tennis Hall of Fame.

Current board members include Haley Bougher of International, who serves as secretary and co-webmaster; Tony Peters of Westfield, who serves as treasurer; and vice presidents Scott Yarbrough of Jasper, Eric Bowers of Penn, Jerid Inman of Jeffersonville, Gabe Muterspaugh of Mt. Vernon, Debby Burton of Center Grove, and Andrea Calvert-Sanders of Park Tudor.  In addition, Tony Pitt  of Madison Grant and Brad Haeck of Plymouth oversee the Top 30 State Rankings; Don Wafer of Muncie Central helps with Academic All-State; Ivan Smith of Center Grove oversees the Hall of Fame; Sharon Rosenburgh of Carmel helps with Rules Proposals and more, & Mike Saine of Peru is our Historian.

From here on out it is not “me” but “we” as it is a group effort in all we do for Indiana High School Tennis.   We are happy to do whatever we can to support you so feel free to contact us as concerns or questions arise.    Officer and Top 30 rater emails and phone numbers are online at www.indianatennis.com.  Be sure to let us know how we can help you!

Keep the ball out of the net!
